It's Almost That Time!

We have less than 2 weeks till the start of the school year. We are just putting together the final touches to our classrooms and will be ready for your children on Thursday, August 28.

Yesterday, I sent out a message with some upcoming dates and important information. If you did not see it, here it is again.

Today, Powerschool opened and you are able to see your child's teacher and can make changes to your information. Please check your transportation to make sure it is correct.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

The EG Newsletter

As you view our newsletter, please make sure you look through the entire document. The whole newsletter will not show at one time. As you come to the bottom of the screen, there is a link asking you if you want to see the rest. Please click that so that you are not missing anything.

New Dismissal Procedure

There will be one change this year at dismissal. Parents will no longer have to sign their child(ren) out at the front door at the end of the day. In the past, students who were from out of district or were assigned a bus and the parent removed them from it, would have to be signed out at the door. You will still walk up to the front door to get your child and we will bring them out to you but you will not have to sign a sheet to take your child.

Pavement

Our New Pavement

This summer, the asphalt was ripped up and new pavement was put down. No more huge cracks and tripping hazards. The kids will have a great time at recess.

Things to Know

EG is a Title 1 School

Our school receives federal funds through the Title I grant. These are supplemental funds, which means they are used to provide additional resources to support identified students in achieving academic success in reading and/or math. Teachers communicate with parents/guardians of students who receive reading or math intervention and share progress throughout the year.  We also collaborate with parents and families and seek feedback to improve services.

Parents/guardians also have the right to request information about your child’s teachers’ and paraprofessionals’ professional qualifications. All teachers at our school have been certified by the state of Connecticut as highly qualified. In addition, all staff members continue learning through professional development activities and are evaluated each year to make sure their teaching skills remain at the highest possible level. Furthermore, we will provide timely notice if a student has been assigned or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable State certification or licensure requirements.

Recess

Reminder: Our goal is to get outside each day for recess. As long as it is not too wet or cold, we will be going our each day. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather. Coats are needed when it starts to get colder. Thanks.

Lost and Found

Once again, we will have a Lost and Found rack in the cafeteria and can be accessed by all students during their lunch wave. Please remind your child to check the rack if they come home without an item of clothing. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

Changes to your child's dismissal

You can make changes to your child's dismissal by clicking the More Links Tab in ParentSquare. Here is the direct dismissal link.

Cafeteria Information

Universal free lunch is no longer available to all students. Families are encouraged to complete an application to determine eligibility for Free and/or Reduced Lunch. Applications can be completed on-line here. Otherwise, the cost for school lunch is $3.25 at the elementary level. Parents/Guardians may apply funds to your child’s account either online or by sending a check/cash. Checks should be made out to Newington School Cafeterias.

Breakfast is available for $2 per day also.

Classroom Snacks/Celebrations

All classrooms are peanut/tree nut free. A snack containing peanut/tree nut may not be eaten in the classroom. At lunch, the cafeteria has designated tables for students with peanut/tree nut allergies. Parents of children with these allergies may opt to have your child sit at this table/s. Birthdays may be acknowledged with non-food items such as stickers, pencils, or other non-food items. Food is not accepted for birthday celebrations.
