Our Educators and Students are Doing Amazing Things!

NHS Homecoming 2025
The NHS Student Council (STUCO) under the direction of Elsa Batista hosted their 2025 Homecoming Dance, bringing together over 700 students for an evening of dancing, socializing, and entertainment. The event was made possible by the hard work and support of administrators, district chaperones, custodial staff, Mr. Trowbridge and his Light Team, Art Rich Photo Booth, and DJ Reefs (Ms. Shariffah Mason, NPS Substitute Teacher). Seniors enjoyed their final Homecoming celebration, while Freshmen experienced their first, highlighting the event’s role in building school spirit and community across grades.

Ruth Chaffee/Paterson Student Council Induction
Ruth Chaffee hosted their Student Council Inauguration Ceremony on Friday, November 7th. John Paterson hosted theirs on November 13. Special thanks to advisors, Kristen Wild and Erin Bonfoey at Chaffee and Melissa Delaney who made the ceremonies very special. Ruth Chaffee inductees are picture below.
Garfield Street Paving Update
The paving on Garfield Street continues to make progress! They are beginning to pave the lot where most of our buses are stored. Please check out a video here to check in with some of the updates!
Former MKMS Student Donation
Deb Zawisca, class of '76, donated over $250 worth of food to Holly Davies' homeroom this week! This was to help support the Student Council Food drive. Holly's class was so excited!
QPR Training
Christina Redmand shared that the Human Services staff members Brett Manion and Kayla Hendrickson trained students in the Mental Health Seminar on suicide prevention with QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Training this week. This helps students recognize important warning signs and to know what supports are available to them or others.
Many students expressed their gratitude for this training indication that this topic needs to be discussed more often.
Veterans Day Celebrations
The Newington Public Schools district sure knows how to honor our veterans! All of our schools participated in various activities and assemblies to honor those who have served our country. I was fortunate to attend the annual Veterans Celebration at the Senior Center where our Chamber Choir ,under the direction of Jason Stammen, wowed the attendees with a variety of patriotic songs. Here is a list of what each school did to thank the Veterans in our community!

Also, please join me in thanking the following staff members for their service to our country. Oscar Rivera, CT Army National Guard; Lauren Rondinone, US Navy; Adam Pastuszak, United States Air Force; Raymond Cocola, US Navy; Timothy Kasek, United States Marine Corps; Randy Singh, US Army; Thom Connolly, US Navy; Kenneth Bell, US Navy; Dick Vida, US Army (Combat Engineers); Wayne Corriveau, US Army; Phil Pagoni, US Navy/Vietnam War

Anna Reynolds Collects Donations for Jamaica
Diana Masulli, social worker, shared that this past week, the AR community supported the rebuilding efforts for Jamaica following the devastation from Hurricane Melissa. Many of our families have loved ones who currently live on the island, and when we were approached by a family about their fundraising efforts, we knew we needed to help. Giving back is what being an Anna Reynolds Tiger is all about and our community showed up and showed Kindness (one of our Tiger expectations).

Pictured are Meagan and Morghen, 4th graders, whose family members have been directly impacted by the storm and whose mother will be sending our donations to Jamaica.
