November Students of the Month

Each month, teachers nominate a student of the month. This student displays attributes of being kind, setting a good example for others, and is an active participant in their learning. We compile all the nominees and the staff vote on our Outstanding Student of the Month who is honored at an awards' presentation at Town Hall with Dr. Brummett.

We also recognize students in our Kindergarten and Pre K. They are our Shining Stars. These are our youngest students who are learning all about the expectations of Elizabeth Green Elementary School. In their short time with us, they have done a fabulous job completing their work, being classroom leaders, and having an overall outstanding attitude.

Here are our Shining Stars:
Pre K - Marco Tedeschi, Stella Peters, and Divya Charitar
Kindergarten - Nolan Greenwood, Ethan Roberts, and Braeson Royce

Here are our nominees and our Outstanding Student of the Month:
First Grade - Daniel Abraham, Charlie Jarvis, and Annabelle Martin
Second Grade - Olivia Cote, Dominic Iturrino, and Emily Gadek
Third Grade - Manuel Vazquez Stella, Oliver Sankow, and Olivia Masho
Fourth Grade - Julia De Almeida Silva, Nariah Holder, and Jillian Dwyer

Our Outstanding Student of the Month is Nariah Holder. Congratulations to everyone!

EG is a Title 1 School

Our school receives federal funds through the Title I grant. These are supplemental funds, which means they are used to provide additional resources to support identified students in achieving academic success in reading and/or math. Teachers communicate with parents/guardians of students who receive reading or math intervention and share progress throughout the year.  We also collaborate with parents and families and seek feedback to improve services.

Parents/guardians also have the right to request information about your child’s teachers’ and paraprofessionals’ professional qualifications. All teachers at our school have been certified by the state of Connecticut as highly qualified. In addition, all staff members continue learning through professional development activities and are evaluated each year to make sure their teaching skills remain at the highest possible level. Furthermore, we will provide timely notice if a student has been assigned or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable State certification or licensure requirements.

Cafeteria Information

Each morning, we offer breakfast to our students. If a student would like breakfast, they are able to walk to the cafe and pick up a grab-n-go breakfast bag. Breakfast is $2 in most cases. If you do not want your child to get breakfast because they are eating at home, please send a note to your child's teacher.

Universal free lunch is no longer available to all students. Families are encouraged to complete an application to determine eligibility for Free and/or Reduced Lunch. Applications can be completed on-line here. Otherwise, the cost for school lunch is $3.25 at the elementary level. Parents/Guardians may apply funds to your child’s account either online or by sending a check/cash. Checks should be made out to Newington School Cafeterias.

Snacks

Reminder to send in a nut-free snack with your child each day. Our days are long and the kids do get hungry either before or after lunch. We have set a snack time into each teachers' schedule to make sure the kids have time to eat something if they are hungry. Our nurse will not be providing snacks this year.

Dismissal - When picking up in your car...

We have run into a small issue at dismissal. If you are picking up a student and are in the drive up line, please do not get out of your car to get your child. This holds up the line. We try to load 3-5 cars at a time. Once they are loaded, they drive off and the line can move up. Exiting your car to yell to your child slows the process down for everyone. Thanks for your help with this.

The Book Fair is coming! We will kick things off with our Book Fairy Fund Coin Drive 12/1-12/5. Bring in your coins and donate to the Book Fairy Fund to help the PTO purchase books for students and the library. The grade level that raises the most money will earn an extra recess. The Book Fair will begin on Monday 12/8. Students will visit the book fair during the school day with their classes. Each student will receive a free book (up to $10 in value) courtesy of the PTO. We need parent volunteers to make this happen! Please see Parent Square for more information.

Spirit Wear is currently 20% off through 12/10. You can shop here.

Thank you to everyone who attended our November meeting. Meeting minutes may be found here. The budget overview shared at the meeting may be found here.

Lizzie's Spirit Wear Closet is a place where families donate gently used E. Green apparel they may no longer need or want. It is a free "shop" where anyone may browse and take what they need at no cost. Lizzie's Spirit Wear Closet will be available at PTO sponsored events throughout the year. Please email egreenpto@gmail.com to donate your gently used spirit wear items.

Please make sure you are following the PTO on Parent Square and on Facebook to receive the latest updates and information.

Recess

Reminder: Our goal is to get outside each day for recess. As long as it is not too wet or cold, we will be going our each day. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather. Coats are needed when it starts to get colder. Thanks.

Lost and Found

Once again, we will have a Lost and Found rack in the cafeteria and can be accessed by all students during their lunch wave. Please remind your child to check the rack if they come home without an item of clothing. If you have any questions, please email bfigueiredo@npsct.org.

Changes to your child's dismissal

You can make changes to your child's dismissal by clicking the More Links Tab in ParentSquare. Here is the direct dismissal link.

Classroom Snacks/Celebrations

All classrooms are peanut/tree nut free. A snack containing peanut/tree nut may not be eaten in the classroom. At lunch, the cafeteria has designated tables for students with peanut/tree nut allergies. Parents of children with these allergies may opt to have your child sit at this table/s. Birthdays may be acknowledged with non-food items such as stickers, pencils, or other non-food items. Food is not accepted for birthday celebrations.
