It has been cold!

We got hit with the snow at the start of the week and the drop in temperature came right after it. It has a been brutally cold. Recess has been indoors. I want to thank Brian Quigley for taking the students on a quick walk around the building on Thursday to get some fresh air.

We had another great week at E. Green! While I was in every classroom this week, I saw the excited faces of our students working hard at the different tasks that they were involved in. To hear them explain their thinking was very rewarding. They have been working hard. I am proud of the work they are doing. I can't wait to see what they do next!

Next week is our PTO Glow Dance. We hope to see you there!

Have a great weekend!

January Students of the Month

Each month, teachers nominate a student of the month. This student displays attributes of being kind, setting a good example for others, and is an active participant in their learning. We compile all the nominees and the staff vote on our Outstanding Student of the Month who is honored at an awards' presentation at Town Hall with Dr. Brummett.

We also recognize students in our Kindergarten and Pre K. They are our Shining Stars. These are our youngest students who are learning all about the expectations of Elizabeth Green Elementary School. In their short time with us, they have done a fabulous job completing their work, being classroom leaders, and having an overall outstanding attitude.

Here are our Shining Stars:
Pre K - Everly Derubbo, Angel Cruz Colon, and Sloane Heim
Kindergarten - Victoria Castelhano, Kaycee McAfee, Niklaus Marti, and Julian Kessinger

Here are our nominees and our Outstanding Student of the Month:
First Grade - Jacob Tran, Willa Solnik, and Lucas Hernandez Banzer
Second Grade - Vincenzo Mezzio, Lyra Hedlund, and David Ampuran
Third Grade - Sienna Brayer, Prithiska Gurung, and Jacob Figueroa
Fourth Grade - Christopher Rreza, Liam Cyr, and Brooke Boutin

Our Outstanding Student of the Month is Liam Cyr. Congratulations to everyone!

EG is a Title 1 School

Our school receives federal funds through the Title I grant. These are supplemental funds, which means they are used to provide additional resources to support identified students in achieving academic success in reading and/or math. Teachers communicate with parents/guardians of students who receive reading or math intervention and share progress throughout the year.  We also collaborate with parents and families and seek feedback to improve services.

Parents/guardians also have the right to request information about your child’s teachers’ and paraprofessionals’ professional qualifications. All teachers at our school have been certified by the state of Connecticut as highly qualified. In addition, all staff members continue learning through professional development activities and are evaluated each year to make sure their teaching skills remain at the highest possible level. Furthermore, we will provide timely notice if a student has been assigned or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable State certification or licensure requirements.

Dressing for the outdoors!

Please make sure your child brings to school a coat, hat, and gloves for recess. We would like to go out each day and it can get chilly. We do not want to see anyone getting sick due to not wearing warm clothing. Thanks.

Cafeteria Information

Each morning, we offer breakfast to our students. If a student would like breakfast, they are able to walk to the cafe and pick up a grab-n-go breakfast bag. Breakfast is $2 in most cases. If you do not want your child to get breakfast because they are eating at home, please send a note to your child's teacher.

Universal free lunch is no longer available to all students. Families are encouraged to complete an application to determine eligibility for Free and/or Reduced Lunch. Applications can be completed on-line here. Otherwise, the cost for school lunch is $3.25 at the elementary level. Parents/Guardians may apply funds to your child’s account either online or by sending a check/cash. Checks should be made out to Newington School Cafeterias.

Snacks

Reminder to send in a nut-free snack with your child each day. Our days are long and the kids do get hungry either before or after lunch. We have set a snack time into each teachers' schedule to make sure the kids have time to eat something if they are hungry. Our nurse will not be providing snacks this year.
