It's Conference Week!

Next week, we have conferences on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We look forward to talking to you about your child's progress so far this year. If you haven't signed up yet, you have until Monday before the slots close out.

You are now able to view your child's Progress Report in PowerSchool. It was opened up yesterday. If you are having any trouble, please let us know.

We are coming into the final stretch of the year. There are only 59 days left. There are many exciting activities planned and a lot of learning still to do. We will keep you updated on what we have coming up

E. Green Students in the News!

We have two exciting stories to share about our students.

First, we have Sienna. Earlier in the year, I shared with you the CHET Dream Big Competition. Students could submit an application to CHET which is the Connecticut Higher Education Trust. This is an investment opportunity to save for after high school in your pursuit of a college or a trade school education. For her age group, Sienna submitted an illustrated essay to the given prompt. I am happy to share that Sienna was chosen as the Grand Prize Winner. Congratulations on your award!

Second, Brynn and Hadley stopped by NFD this past week to share some breakfast treats. Thank you for supporting our first responders!

Shout Out to Our Families - "We Are E. Green" Night

A huge thank you to the parents and staff who served on the "We Are E. Green" night committee and took the time to create a table! We are so grateful for the opportunity to work with such a dedicated group. You brought your hard work and positive energy to each table and this truly made the night a success. It was wonderful to see the students and parents so engaged while exploring the various games and activities.

We are already looking forward to collaborating again next year! We will be starting the committee up again as soon as the new school year begins. Be on the look out for the signup sheet.

Participants: THANK YOU!
Madhu Aryal, Diana Benavides, Gricel Bodden, Christine Calandriello, Katrina Cloutier, Roji Dhungana, Brittany Figueredo, Sue Freese, Melissa Gajada, Craig Guyette, Amy Inzero, Arnoldo Jimenez, Reynaldo and Ana Kristina Layus, Erin Moebus-Poppa, Sandra Pereira, Brian Quigley, Antwanette Serrano, Megha Thomas, and Cedrica Titus.

March Students of the Month

Each month, teachers nominate a student of the month. This student displays attributes of being kind, setting a good example for others, and is an active participant in their learning. We compile all the nominees and the staff vote on our Outstanding Student of the Month who is honored at an awards' presentation at Town Hall with Dr. Brummett.

We also recognize students in our Kindergarten and Pre K. They are our Shining Stars. These are our youngest students who are learning all about the expectations of Elizabeth Green Elementary School. In their short time with us, they have done a fabulous job completing their work, being classroom leaders, and having an overall outstanding attitude.

Here are our Shining Stars:
Pre K - Charlie Doherty, Karter Higgins, and Rose Pellowski
Kindergarten - Isabella Costa, Nina Rivas, and Aston Allen

Here are our nominees and our Outstanding Student of the Month:

Thank you everyone who participated in our Raise Craze kindness fundraiser! With your help, our school completed and raised $3295.00! Donations will be accepted through Sunday 3/22 and final prizes will be distributed on Monday. We are left inspired by the kindness shown and hope to continue our school’s quest to show gratitude and give back to our community. AMAZING JOB!

The Book Fair begins on Monday. Please checkout the information shared here. Students will visit the fair during the school day with their classes and the fair will be open for families to shop on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during conferences. Additionally, the Newington HS Spanish Honor Society will be in the cafe on Thursday from 5p-8p sharing stories and crafts with our students. We hope you can join us!

The PTO is currently seeking a treasurer for next year. In coordination with the Executive Committee this position is responsible for tracking payments and income and provides a short report each month. Please email us at egreenpto@gmail.com if you would like more information. The minutes from this week's meeting can be accessed here.

Lizzie's Spirit Wear Closet is a place where families donate gently used E. Green apparel they may no longer need or want. It is a free "shop" where anyone may browse and take what they need at no cost. Lizzie's Spirit Wear Closet will be available at PTO sponsored events throughout the year. Please email egreenpto@gmail.com to donate your gently used spirit wear items.

Please make sure you are following the PTO on Parent Square and on Facebook to receive the latest updates and information.

Recess

Reminder: Our goal is to get outside each day for recess. As long as it is not too wet or cold, we will be going our each day. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather. Coats are needed when it starts to get colder. Thanks.

Lost and Found

Once again, we will have a Lost and Found rack in the cafeteria and can be accessed by all students during their lunch wave. Please remind your child to check the rack if they come home without an item of clothing. If you have any questions, please email bfigueiredo@npsct.org.

Changes to your child's dismissal

You can make changes to your child's dismissal by clicking the More Links Tab in ParentSquare. Here is the direct dismissal link.

Cafeteria Information

Each morning, we offer breakfast to our students. If a student would like breakfast, they are able to walk to the cafe and pick up a grab-n-go breakfast bag. Breakfast is $2 in most cases. If you do not want your child to get breakfast because they are eating at home, please send a note to your child's teacher.

Universal free lunch is no longer available to all students. Families are encouraged to complete an application to determine eligibility for Free and/or Reduced Lunch. Applications can be completed on-line here. Otherwise, the cost for school lunch is $3.25 at the elementary level. Parents/Guardians may apply funds to your child’s account either online or by sending a check/cash. Checks should be made out to Newington School Cafeterias.

Classroom Snacks/Celebrations

All classrooms are peanut/tree nut free. A snack containing peanut/tree nut may not be eaten in the classroom. At lunch, the cafeteria has designated tables for students with peanut/tree nut allergies. Parents of children with these allergies may opt to have your child sit at this table/s. Birthdays may be acknowledged with non-food items such as stickers, pencils, or other non-food items. Food is not accepted for birthday celebrations.

EG is a Title 1 School

Our school receives federal funds through the Title I grant. These are supplemental funds, which means they are used to provide additional resources to support identified students in achieving academic success in reading and/or math. Teachers communicate with parents/guardians of students who receive reading or math intervention and share progress throughout the year.  We also collaborate with parents and families and seek feedback to improve services.

Parents/guardians also have the right to request information about your child’s teachers’ and paraprofessionals’ professional qualifications. All teachers at our school have been certified by the state of Connecticut as highly qualified. In addition, all staff members continue learning through professional development activities and are evaluated each year to make sure their teaching skills remain at the highest possible level. Furthermore, we will provide timely notice if a student has been assigned or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable State certification or licensure requirements.
